ain’t no mountain high enough~ cough wheeze faint

two weeks ago, i joined this hiking trip to taal volcano organized by some frat at NIGS. we followed a pretty easy trail; only the incredible dust and heat tortured us. but i suppose the lovely view of the crater lake was well worth it.

while hiking, i tweeted these lines:

The world is arid.
You can taste ash in the gaps between your teeth, scraping its way down your throat, settling in the spaces between your socks and your toes.
Feel it: the heat caught in the strands of your hair, a burning blanket on your skin, hungry embers on your tongue.
This, your sweat, pooling at the base of your neck and the small of your back, this, trickling onto dust, leaving it dust.
So drink the sight in, drain the caldera & siphon all blue into the blackness of your belly, lick, lick the last drop from this brown basin
And wait–for rain to fall and fill the parched mouth, drown the atrophied tongue, break this drought.
The world is acrid.

LOL melodramatic much?

the week after, i tagged along with remz’ camping class to mt. daguldol. we hiked up a trail with a difficulty level of 2/9, so i suppose it should’ve been pretty easy, but tiring nonetheless. still, it was definitely worth it.

i became friends with fun people

ran around the mountain summit

and woke up to sunrise on the beach!

if i were rich i’d go out of town every month to forgo for a while the thousand little annoyances, the petty mundanities, of the everyday. i’d go to cagayan, cebu, palawan, baguio, bataan, etc. to forget the inevitable disappointments of normal life, like rejections from literary publications or cultural exchange programs.
